ESFM Recognized for Safety Excellence by Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association

ESFM USA® continues to demonstrate leadership in maintaining safe work environments, earning two Distinguished Safety Performance Awards from the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (Industriales de Puerto Rico). The Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (PRMA) is a respected organization representing the island’s industrial and service sectors since 1928, and this is the second year PRMA awarded ESFM with a safety recognition.
Two ESFM facility teams earned the association’s Distinguished Safety Performance Award, granted to companies with a recordable injury and illness frequency rate more than 90% below the national average for their specific type of industrial operation.
“I am extremely proud of our team in Puerto Rico for their continued track record of safety excellence,” ESFM Division Vice President Scott Berryman said. “Our team members look out for each other and our clients, committing to make safety ‘not just a priority but a way of life.’ These awards reflect engaged leadership, inspired team members, and an unwavering commitment to the health and safety of everyone within the facilities we serve.”
ESFM’s team at a life sciences facility in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, earned dual honors, both Distinguished Safety Performance Awards and a Meritorious Improvement Award after achieving a 0.0 injury rate and surpassing 973 days without an OSHA recordable incident. The Meritorious Improvement Award is awarded to sites that reduce their total recordable incident rate by 25% or more.
“Congratulations to the team for championing a culture where safety is a shared value embedded in every action,” Regional Vice President Melissa Grimes said. “Their commitment to creating a safety-first culture for our team members and our clients sets the standard for excellence.”
In Guayama, Puerto Rico, ESFM’s facility team reached 484 consecutive days without an OSHA recordable incident, also qualifying them for the Distinguished Safety Award. Both sites support critical operations in the life sciences sector, where precision and safety go hand in hand.
“These accomplishments reflect the hard work, dedication and safety culture that we continue to foster at ESFM Puerto Rico,” ESFM Regional Director Carlos Valdés said. “They serve as a reminder that safety is a shared responsibility and a core value that drives our success.”
Safety Manager Joyce Martinez attributed the team’s ongoing safety success to four fundamental principles:
- A company-wide commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Proactive hazard identification through a robust “Good Catch” program.
- A dedicated leadership team that provides resources and support to maintain high safety standards.
- Acknowledging and rewarding team members for exhibiting safety behaviors and best practices.
ESFM became a member of the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association in 2023, further aligning its mission with PRMA’s commitment to advancing industry standards and advocating for operational excellence across the island.
