This fall, ESFM National Director of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Rusti Dyals will explore what facility managers can do to prepare for and respond to investigations from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA) when she presents the session “What to Do When OSHA Inspects You” at NFMT Remix 2024 in Las Vegas on Oct. 29.

FacilitiesNet interviewed Dyals,  in anticipation of her presentation, asking her a series of questions about “What to Do When OSHA Inspects You.” Dyals is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) with more than 25 years experience as a safety leader.

“How the facility teams handle [an OSHA investigation] is very important. Being professional, engaged and as transparent as possible is always going to leave a much more positive impression with OSHA,” Dyals said. A key strategy for success, she explained, is preparation: “It starts with the plan. You need to have a plan and it needs to be written down – this is where it all begins.”
