Every day, Leotis Harris carries a cherished piece of Black history with him to work. The Unit Director has done so with pride every day of his 8 years with ESFM, just as he has every day of his career. In fact, Harris has carried this piece of history every day of his life—his name.

“My dad’s legacy means everything to me,” Harris said. “He has laid a foundation, and I feel like I’m responsible to build on that foundation. I take that and run with it on a daily basis.”

Whether he’s mentoring young men, using football as a springboard to help them secure a college education, or leading his facilities management team at ESFM, the younger Harris embodies the lessons passed down from his father. With a coachlike mentality, he empowers others, encouraging them to take on more responsibility and grow into leaders.

“I realized the importance of creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard,” he said. “People are not productive if they don’t feel valued or feel like their ideas are heard. I learned pretty early on that you have to include your team in every aspect of the business and into key decisions.”

Throughout Black History Month, ESFM team members reflected on the trailblazers who influenced them so they can carry the torch forward, shaping the future.

“As a Black woman at ESFM, I stand on the shoulders of those who fought for representation and equity,” Location Coordinator LaToya Williams said. “I am grateful for the positive relationships I’ve built with colleagues who share a commitment to collaboration and inclusivity.

“Working alongside dedicated individuals who actively support one another has reinforced my belief in the power of community.

“I am dedicated to contributing to meaningful change and ensuring that future generations of Black women feel seen, heard and empowered. My journey at ESFM reflects both resilience and optimism as we work together to build a more diverse and equitable workplace for everyone.”

“Bridging that gap, coming together and working together – it creates a strong partnership and allows us to meet the same end goals working as one.”

Building Engineer Leon Elder, who has worked 13 years at ESFM, appreciates the company’s inclusive culture and encourages others to engage with diverse communities.

“Throughout my career, I’ve actively engaged with diverse populations, socioeconomic levels and ages. All have allowed me to develop strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to adapt my skills to effectively meet the needs of daily activities and work requirements.”
