Boilers aren’t typically thought of as green technology, but the truth is boilers are environmentally friendly for several reasons, particularly when comparing them to other heating systems. Modern boilers, including condensing and steam boilers, have high energy efficiency ratings.

ESFM Senior Director of Sustainability & Energy Solutions Gary Williams recently shared some insights with Facility Maintenance Decisions for an article on the sustainable benefits of steam boilers.

He explained how condensing boilers convert a higher percentage of fuel into usable heat, reducing emissions and energy waste while lowering fuel consumption.

“Modern boilers, especially condensing boilers, can achieve efficiency levels of up to 95 percent,” Williams said.

Williams also talked about how innovations including the integration of smart technologies and the Internet of Things are “revolutionizing boiler operations.”

“These advancements allow for real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance and improved efficiency through data analytics and innovations in materials and design are enhancing the performance, durability and energy performance of boilers.”
